«Cacao Nacional» (National Cocoa) is an ancient variety, only found in Ecuador and in the North of Peru. During its golden years –early 20th century, it was known as «pepa de oro» (golden bean). This variety almost disappeared when hybrid ones appeared; the hybrid varieties were more generous and robust, but lacked the flavor and aroma of the original crops. Nowadays, Ecuador cacao farmers are committed to recovering and sharing with the world this variety, one of the finest and most fragrant chocolates.
